LET US HELP THE VULNERABLE

Image
Its been pity the way our society takes alone the merciless showing unto those who happen to be vulnerable. Vulnerability is a state of being weak, incapable for one to depend himself at almost all level of life. Many people today live a miserable life, not because they ask for it, some people might argue that, that's the way the nature choose for them. But some times the state of being vulnerable is just artificial. While nature make provisions of all livelihood some greed handlers make the supplies so scarce to suppresses people. Some may opine on the theory of scarcity and choice, which leads consumer to excessive market competition, and though market can be any place where a bargain take place between those that are willing to sacrifice a valuable for another. Life can be miserable without conscience and many people fall and became victim and can be vulnerable. In Africa, many children are being expose to many aspect of poverty, a continent that is characterize by excessive ...

BYE BYE MADIBA

Image
I only see a man in my life that is widely celebrated and saluted, I rarely see any like MADIBA in this century. He displayed the parley of humility, modesty and good coverage of life. Mandela was extraordinary and his perception toward humanity freedom and social justice earn him a great respect even among his foes, he never complained for any gruesome habit shown to him by his jailor. For 27 years in Robins Island prison he never compromised his position as to give himself in for the occupiers yearnings and demands, that's want make him great. Many have yield, many have relinquished to evil, many have have surrendered, but to MADIBA it was No retreat no surrender. Africa will remain in mourning for long time, because the gap that this people's hero left, will not be bridge in a near future. Nelson Mandela was an example of good leadership and ICONIC stewardship which fulfilled the yearnings of his people, he does make me to remember some of our heroes, people like Sir Ahm...

THE HUMBLE MUMMY

Image
Every picture can tell a million stories, but my picture is abstract, abstract in the sense that, the picture remain just portrayed in my heart, and that will remain scripted until eternity. When people remain strong and elevated in life, the question is the mother who nurse you through life has done much to make a great living being out of you. My mother is my best friend and hero, she work hard for my survival and when I went through puberty she make sure I was not tempted or derailed from the path of the light and truth. Every one's mother is his hero, our story may differ, but I believe it will derived the same root and arrived at the same spot. We were poorly brought up, with a sweat of a mother, who some time goes to bed with empty stomach just to make us safe and un-hungry, I can still remembered the several times she cried on her bed, because she was hungry, we ate the available supply, but having seeing us happy, she gleefully smile and pretend that everything was alrigh...

THE POLITICS OF POCKETING AND KILLINGS

If there is anything worth worrying is not much than the modern system of democracy which Nigeria and Nigerians adopted, a total change or I can say a total derailment from the actual political track which is recognized all over the world. Although, the history always use to repeat itself, but the current situation at which this country find itself, I will never guarantee the safe landing of the next general election comes 2015, hence we all witness the 2011 post election violence that erupted immediately after the pronouncement of the presidential election results, the violence which claimed many lives and the lost of hundred of millions worth of properties. The conspiracy theory at which the western world predicted the split of Nigeria because of ethnic tension and what a view, is gaining roots making the especially younger generation who have no experience of how much some people sacrifice to keep this country united, including many that lost their lives, some have permanent disab...

PEACEFUL CITY OF SOKOTO

Image
The last time I was in Sokoto was before the coming back of the 1999 democracy, when I went to Usmanu Dan fodio university, hoping to secure an admission field to study Law. I was unfortunate then not get the admission because of some deficiency, that was the last time I was in the city. My recent visit was greeted with so many changes which I must confess it was brought via the ample dividend of democracy, when people fulfill there yearnings by electing the people of there choice in to the political office so that the said elected persons will endeavors to make the promise realistic and attainable to bring sustainability and economic stability. Sokoto is blissfully lucky this time around to have her two illustrious sons as Democratically elected chief executives, thereby ripen the dividend as it is suppose to be. I am much astonish to see the wide tremendous change in the city, many road were excavated and some interceptor flyover bridges were build to easen traffic flow within the ...

SALLAH DAY IN THE VILLAGE

My first sallah in my mother's village, after about 15 years, I enjoy the break and the visitation. Its really good to have a reunion with those whom you were childhood friends and get together again.

AFRICA'S EPIDEMIC MIGRATION TO EUROPE

Image
Slave trade deprived Africans there human dignity and rights which make a person to be taken against his will. So many Africans were migrated or taken forcefully to Europe and America to work on a farm which can never be there's. Africa have tested these deprivation for decades before the industrial revolution of the 19 century. After the abolition of the slave trade, we have seen the historic inflow of the freed slave back to Africa to come and be settled in the settlement such as the Liberia and Free town, long before the Africa's struggle for political independent from the colonial Europe. Post independent Africa is full of surprises in which the neocolonialism continues this time with the full pledge corrupt leaders of the continent. We remain the dark continent even after the expected political independence which have became a tool of regrets to other countries. Post independent and the political economy of Africa is another story of it own, when many underdeveloped As...

I SALUTE THE NEGLECTED TEACHERS

Image
No doubt a teacher is the foundation of knowledge apart from the parents, school is a place where people undergo a formal training and make a good life. Teachers are the light in a child life, teacher is a light in ones path without which this particular person shall be astray in the wilderness of illiteracy. Teachers are the impactors of knowledge and also they induce and inculcate discipline to make a person a better for himself and the community. So many Nigerian teachers did not believe the teaching to be the profession which one will be proud of, because so many people thought that teaching in Nigeria is a quasi profession, where by it has became the last resort, last option after being struggle to grab other more lucrative job. Teachers in Nigeria are being mock with the famous slogan of, 'your reward is in heaven', meaning they will never have any welfare package here on earth, because of the whooping neglect from the part of the government itself, which totally make t...

NIGERIA 53 YEARS OF NARROW ESCAPE (2)

Image
No doubt we have our independence on a flatter of gold, and though the later differences and many misunderstanding leads to a lot of calamities and which still follow Nigeria and Nigerians. In this episode i will talk about the biggest problem Nigeria is facing, the name which is much familiar to even the kindergarten, and if you can go around Nigeria and ask this question about corruption, in am sure you will have the same answer and even tomorrow the answer will remain the same. CORRUPTION Before the independence of 1960, our founding fathers expected to put down a country which each sundry will be much proud of it. A country which will stand on it feet and make provisions for all basics, tranquility and prosperity. Agriculture was the first instrument of development that was used to develop this country up to 1966, I believe if the industry was not cut shot, Nigeria could have became Africa's CANADA. Corruption is the highest problem facing Nigeria and for long time this cou...

NIGERIA 53 YEARS OF NARROW ESCAPE (1)

Image
One need no books of reference to ascertain the history of Nigeria, and the flow of the post independent from craddle to riches to political turmoil and civil war, indeed Nigeria have a great history of narrow escape as a nation or as a sovereign nation, a state of being where many countries of the world did not cross the acid test which Nigeria have gone through. What a blessed country. No doubt Nigerians are known to be self reliant people, courageous good in terms of morality and want a view, we a have a rich historical background from the Kanem Bornu Empire to Calabar, Sokoto to Ogun Benin and Jukun empires, were once a symbol of might and power which Nigeria have the history attached to. Our origin was indeed a unique one which hardly you can find its pair in African legends. Our civilizations is indeed a good one without historical calamities apart from the colonialization. Nigeria raised from the dust to grace for her 53 independent history somany  stories to be told, both...

JUSTICE DELAY IS ALWAYS JUSTICE DENIED

The killings of some innocents Nigerians last week by the Nigeria's security under the pretext of security details regarding those killed is one of those things that will never be forgotten or forgiving. The Apo killings sparks the need to sanitize the nation intelligence system and security information, to avoid killings of innocents citizen. Those youth are promising person and mostly bread winners of there family, simply leaving their various villages to come to FCT for greener posture, not knowing that they coming to meet their end at the hand of unprofessional security that always act based on miscalculation and false alarms. The 8 squatters that met their death are from the northern part of the country and believe me they are just ramped without question, and the government is yet to make any arrest, beside, they are even justifying the killing as a no mistake crush of potential terrorist, base on intelligence. The unfortunate event reminds me on how the North east nightma...

ALMAJIRI SYSTEM MUST BE REVIEW

Image
WE ARE ALL BEGGERS IN A DIFFERENT WAY Evening in my house, when a small boy of about 9, enters and make salutation, then he begs. The nature of his begging alarmed me and I beckoned him to repeat what he said, which eventually repeated exactly as "our teacher as us to come and beg for money". I enquired what is there teacher going to do with the money they differently contribute, the boy replied as they will use them to buy firewood and some food for the teachers' use in his house. The boy begs for 10 Naira only but he got 20, I glimpse the joy in his face when he got more than what he begs for.   My life could have been no different to that boy, when I happen to be at the same age with my mother and my younger ones, our Dad cannot meet the challenge then, then we became our own beggers and make our daily bread. The Almajiri system of today is an abuse of children, and I believe there is no any conjunction between religion or seeking  knowledge according to Islam and to...

HOW I MEET MY FORTUNE

Image
The scourge of poverty can twist even the most potent of minds, make it dis-functional and confuse, because the disturbed brain of human being cannot clock wisely serve it purpose only the otherwise. So it shall all alone became worthless and hopeless, and the oblongata will get derail from it primary functions to something else. The prolonged adversity which usually occurs to human endeavours often make it to always feel the guilt of existence and so, it adopt the inferiority nature of even self hatred, then the unconscious nature of being guilt emanate and defeat even the strongest soul. I was once lived a guilt life, which closely affect my performance as a functional human being, when poverty stricken, then you will be left with many options of survival and then your power house will begin to be drawing so many variables of sketches and skewed maps to follow and you will think the promise land is just few metres away from the delusional dreams. Unattained dreams often drive a per...

FG AND ASUU CRIPPLING EDUCATION IN NIGERIA

Image
My younger brother once told me about his studies at the island of Cyprus, where he obtained his Bachelor Degree on International Relations, that, a professor may get disturb when a student fail his exams, or even a simple class test. That makes me to recall what usually our lecturers use to told us in Nigeria, whenever we are in there lecture, a PhD lecturer will boldly and openly tell his students that they got admission in to university, but it may not be necessary for them to graduate. This reveals the extent of cruelty that our lecturers in the Nigerian universities are showing to those future degree holders. One can never understand the rationale behind this, when an in factor of knowledge will unnecessarily discourage his student when he is expected to give them all the courage to make their lives. That has been the problem of Nigeria's schools where many student don't expect to graduate on time, despite the huge resources at the institutions dispersal. The history of ...

THEN THE WEST PREDICTION OF NIGERIA COULD BE IMMINENT

I only mind my business when I see an unpredicted issue, issue which can over tune a rhetoric sound of peaceful orator of a given situation. Nigeria is a Federal system of government, when so many people despite there ethnical spheres agreed to come together to protect a common gold of being a country and with that, they will be a strong nation. Federalism can be a means of achieving greatness and might, especially if the country has a civil history, that will make her strong and powerful among the pears. Strong ness in terms of wealth and human resources, which are indispensable in any country that will like to be strong. History will never be forgiven if we beckoned to assimilate the reflections of the past, and how Nigeria come in to being and the aftermath of independent. A lot of calamities have befall Nigeria, including civil war, and that was the bitter one, Gen. Gowon is still alive today, he is in better position to explain the bitterness of taking arms against a fellow ci...

INDISCIPLINE LEADS TO CORRUPTION

Image
When General Murtala ascended the affairs of Nigeria, the first function he did was to declared publicly his assets and he does asked all his subordinates to followed his footstep to declare their asset, then the government business commenced. That was 1976. Nigeria is no doubt greatly endowed with almost everything a country need to survive, and it will be a repetitive for me now to be listing all those endowment that Nigeria is greatly rich in. It could be boring. Second Republic politicians were accused of being highly corrupt, they were accused of mismanaging the country which make it necessary for the military to step in and in there own word, to rescue the vessel from sinking. So there gone the Shehu Shagaris, When in 1983 the second republic democracy was stoned down and let to rest, just some months after the second tenure general elections. Gen. Buhari became the Head of State and government, with so many high discipline subordinates, with the exception of course of Gen. IB...

CAN WE CALL THIS FUTURE

Image
I was enjoying my evening in my root neighborhood, discussing about the future and the way out for Nigerian youth, with some of my cousins and friends, some passersby too some time stires at our discussion, because it was a terrific debate and interesting. Nigerian youth at this moment does not have a good bright future, an argument that is with us for the past two decades when the country slipped and derailed from the foundation direction on which the founding fathers built her. Living in a slum like my community gave me a great insight and i always  glimps it as what some people calls it BAD CHOICE of life, although the people are not there just because they really love to be there but the nature make them to. In Nigeria of today, youth have no manifesto as they don't have a place of sympathy in the heart of the leaders, because to today's Nigerian ruler, his children are more important than any other children in the country, if they are opportune to get elected, or topple...

MY FIRST ENCOUNTER (2)

Flexibility of freedom make a man to be a social animal and albeit, that gives him all the opportunity to mingle properly and straight on the earth without hindrance. Man as a flexible creature, have all the means and wherewithal to adopt the environment. My encounter with social medias transform me to be among the rationals who thought the world could  be a global villege. And social media make my day. Facebook, Twitter, Google+ 2go, all became agents of this social change, with many have found the platform interesting, and many more. I am optimistic that, social media brings a revolution to not only the youth be the world over, because a network is established which encompasses a lot. My being here make me to get acquainted with many people around the world, I became popular among both my pears and others, and I became much educated regarding the social strata of various civilization. Social media educate as well as spoils, one thing I understand is that, you can be a good, b...

MY FIRST ENCOUNTER (1)

It indeed the quickest platform of becoming much popular, and to make a friends some of which you will never meet face to face forever, but at least you know each other or you get acquainted to each other. My first knowledge to social media was an amazing one, yes! 'Facebook'' which was date back to 2009, and I believe I was among the early users of this side in Nigeria. I don't have computer then, or internet enable phone, because I remember my phone was the famous Nokia 3310 that is i only use to visit internet cafe to socialized on the internet, since I cannot afford a computer then. It was in Abuja I "sign up" my first e-mail account, at the cafe of the U.B.E. Headquarters Abuja,  which I still maintain,  maizankot@yahoo.com. I was so excited, Facebook was my second encounter with the social media, and I was happy to join the social community when almost more than half of Nigerians did not have the access and dont know its importance, until later years.I c...

ASUU STRIKE OR MENDING THE BROKEN UMBRELLA, WHICH ONE IS MORE IMPORTANT TO NIGERIA

It look like president Good luck's attention is now drifting away from the ailing striking higher institution, and totally focusing on the splinter drama of his party. University lecturers are on industrial strike, for quite some times now, and we understand that, the negotiations is on deadlock, as no meaningful solution is attainable, while the longer the strike take the vulnerable many Nigerian youth will be. Nigeria's educational system has been in a coma for a very long time, as both the teachers and students use only available and scarce resources ton get themselves an sound if all education. That is the story of public schools in Nigeria, where government is always in short of money for this important sector. The recent industrial strike action by ASUU have cripple the already fragile education sector, and as we can see the GEJ government is no longer interested in settling the matter and difference amicably, but, the government enjoys deceiving Nigerians as to make u...

PICTURE SPEAKS A THOUSAND WORD

Image
Girls being exposes to poverty without education, can be vulnerable.

MY OWN POVERTY DEFINITION

My Dad was a lower class civil servant when I was born, my Mum, a loyal housewife who serve the purpose of making us her children comfortable with a little available resources she can afford. I help in feeding the family when I was small, and I remember me hawking with a tray of cola nuts alone the streets of my town trying to make a living. Many family like mine live under the poverty line, but we were lucky in the 1970s schools were free, and affordable with quality, that is how we get good and sound education. That was the difference between us the children of less privilege of yesterday, and those of today. Poverty to me is one thing that will never be separated with humanity but, I believe humanity can strive to reduce its scourged and by making a proper economic policy in the country. My high school days was marked by many adventures and I reserve them for my memoir if I will became an important personality in my country. The liquidation of Nigeria Railway corporation in 1987...

FELA KUTI'S "SUFFERING AND SMILING"

Image
They help to rigged the elections, they help to make the country look bastard, and yet they think these people may come and help them.

MONEY POLITICS KILLS NIGERIA'S DEMOCRACY

The beauty of democracy is to vote and be voted for, and everybody has his interest, which permanent. Democracy they said "is a game of numbers where the majority may carry the vote". After the collapse of the USSR, many countries found dictatorship as old fashion and be ridiculing if any country follows the foot step of some dictatorship in the world. Military juntas especially in Africa, have since relent and accept that there era was just history and became loyalist of the state function chosen by the popular vote of the masse. Nigeria tried civil rule three times, first at the independent, with the first republic, which collapsed in 1966. Second republic came in 1979, but lasted only one term, when was dismissed by the junta. General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, attempted the return to civilians but was tarnished by only God knows reason, when in 1993, annulled Abiolas SDP election, which was widely believed it was won by the late chief. Late Gen. Sani Abacha attempte...

ARE MILITARY NOT HIDING THE TRUTH

Image
To most officers who never saw combat before this time, are much full of cohesion and they thought is just like a normal civil crisis usually occurs in the country which can be quench in just a few days of law enforcement. Everyone of us agrees that, Nigeria is now at the most pressing moment of her independent life, and since after the civil war, we have not been in the situation more than what we are now facing with the emanation of the insurgency of JAMA'ATU AHLIL SUNNAH LIL DA'AWATI WAL JIHAD. popularly known as BOKO HARAM. The trying moment which we faced in previous years of our existence have not reached the apex of the present challenge, we experienced the MAITATSINE  appraisal 3 times in both Borno, Yola and Kano respectively, but the current insurgency is a typical change order of the today's fragility of the security situation around the world. Ranging from country to country, the civil unrest as well as war and rancour, which originated from both injustice an...

WATER A SOURCE OF LIFE

Image
God created us and grant us all abundance, and among the bounties is the water which give a complete aspect of living and source our life from them. we need to carefully select the type of water we consume and authorities shall deem it necessary to provide the communities with portable drinking water, for life sustainability.

ENPOWER THEM

Women are part of life, and the life will never be completed without them. In advanced countries, woman have became an established model worthy of emulation, and many have stands by their feet. Women in the underdeveloped countries are still struggling for recognition at the first place just to became acquainted in the society, and became accepted that they too can make a difference in the development of the society. Nigeria, sign many international treaties regarding the welfare of the women, and we are not left out in this crusade. Many women are being deprived of their share, especially if they happen to be without a back to lean on. Most of African women enters difficulty of life, when they became widows, the husband will die and left her with a number of children, and because of that, remarrieg became more difficult than she thinks of, nobody will approach her for her hand, given the number of burden she carries, in her children. Many women became expose and vulnerable to many asp...

IS PDP THE PROBLEM?

So many of us have been celebrating with the aftermath of the last Saturday PDP national mini convention, where some State governors feel scolded with the way the party is being handle by it national chairman, and beside that, the current leadership became just errand to the president ambitions of returning to power come 2015, therefore, the aggrieved governors who feel unsecure with the leadership took there stands against the party. Many of us thought PDP is the Nigeria problem, but in doubt I will categorically reject that, Nigerians are highly characterised by good concentration of indiscipline, and that drives us to where we are today, because too much wealth has made us more mad than ever. We agree that Nigeria spends most of her post independence year under the military dictatorship, and may be it may affect our way of life and being, suffice to say, even our Democratic processes can be odds than that of any of our pears. We are much blessed with good intelligent and vast abundan...
