A REBUTTAL OF FALSEHOODS AND A DEFENCE OF FACTUAL TRUTH: DR. YAKUBU ADAMU'S DOCTORAL CREDENTIALS STAND UNIMPEACHED.

In the realm of public discourse, facts are expected to prevail over conjecture, evidence over speculation, and truth over sensationalism. It is therefore both regrettable and necessary to respond to the publication circulated by WikkiTimes questioning the academic credentials of Dr. Yakubu Adamu, the All Progressives Movement (APM) Governorship Candidate for the 2027 Bauchi State gubernatorial election.

The publication alleges that Dr. Yakubu Adamu does not possess a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, that his claim of obtaining the degree from the International University Bamenda (IUB), Republic of Cameroon, is fraudulent, and that the institution itself lacks the authority or academic capacity to award doctoral degrees. These assertions are entirely devoid of factual foundation, unsupported by credible evidence, and have now been conclusively disproved by the official records of the awarding institution.

In a formal letter of confirmation dated 16 June 2026, the International University Bamenda unequivocally affirmed that Dr. Yakubu Adamu was duly admitted into its doctoral programme, successfully completed all prescribed academic requirements, and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree following the completion of his studies. The University further described allegations challenging his graduation as false, misleading, and contrary to its official records.

The significance of this official confirmation cannot be overstated. In matters concerning academic qualifications, the awarding institution remains the ultimate custodian of records and the highest authority regarding the status of its graduates. Consequently, any narrative that seeks to invalidate a qualification already certified by the issuing institution collapses under the weight of its own contradictions.

Equally misleading is the claim that the International University Bamenda does not offer doctoral programmes. Historical records and the University's academic structure demonstrate that doctoral studies have been part of its academic offerings for many years. The institution has produced graduates at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, with alumni contributing meaningfully across academia, government, business, and professional sectors in various parts of the world.

What emerges from the facts is a troubling picture of a publication that appears to have prioritised sensational allegations over diligent verification. Journalism derives its credibility not from the volume of accusations it publishes but from the accuracy of the facts it presents. Where facts are ignored and assumptions are elevated above verifiable evidence, public trust becomes the first casualty.

The attempt to cast doubt on Dr. Yakubu Adamu's academic credentials despite the existence of an official confirmation from the awarding institution is therefore not a triumph of investigative journalism but an unfortunate departure from the principles of fairness, objectivity, and professional responsibility.

Setting the Record Straight on the Misleading Allegations Against Dr. Yakubu Adamu, PhD

Recent claims suggesting that Dr. Yakubu Adamu completed his PhD thesis within 40 days are not only misleading but also constitute a deliberate misrepresentation of facts aimed at deceiving the public.

The reality is that Dr. Yakubu Adamu's doctoral research was conducted over a period of approximately one and a half years under the supervision of his principal supervisor, the late Professor Ambizia. Following the unfortunate demise of Professor Ambizia, the university reassigned another academic, Dr. Gana, based in Bauchi, to oversee and conclude the supervisory process. This administrative adjustment explains the date being referenced by the journalist and should not be misconstrued as the commencement date of the doctoral research.

It is equally important to clarify that the signatory, Professor Cletus, was wrongly referred to as "Mr." by the journalist. Professor Cletus is a distinguished academic and a professor, and any representation to the contrary reflects either negligence or a lack of proper fact-checking.

Furthermore, Professor Fusi remained the external examiner throughout the process to ensure the integrity and quality of the research work. As the founder of the university, his role was strictly academic and quality-assurance oriented. It should also be noted that academic regulations and doctoral supervision procedures in Central Africa differ significantly from those in West Africa, making comparisons based on unfamiliar systems both inaccurate and unfair.

Beyond the controversy, Dr. Yakubu Adamu's academic and professional credentials speak for themselves. Before joining academia, Alhaji Kawugana built a successful career in the banking sector, having worked with Habib Bank and Bank PHB. He later transitioned into academia and has served as a part-time lecturer in Banking and Finance at Federal Polytechnic Bauchi since 2019.

His academic journey reflects years of dedication and continuous learning. He progressed through various educational stages, including Diploma, Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Higher National Diploma (HND), Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master's degree, and ultimately a PhD. He is also a Chartered Accountant with substantial practical and academic experience.

Dr. Adamu has made remarkable contributions to research and scholarship. His achievements include:

- 67 publications in reputable international journals.
- Participation in 24 national conferences.
- Participation in 10 international conferences.
- Execution of 7 TETFund-sponsored research projects across various disciplines.
- Authorship and co-authorship of several academic textbooks.

Among his published textbooks are:

1. The Role of Computer in Business (2020), co-authored with Amadu Maidorawa, ISBN: 978-978-989-363-8.
2. Introduction to Financial Accounting (2020), ISBN: 978-978-969-135-9.
3. Investment and Portfolio Management (2023), co-authored with Usman Ibrahim Zwall, ISBN: 978-978-995-111-6.
4. Principles and Practice of Banking and Finance (2025), co-authored with Dr. Yakubu Adamu.
5. Financial Management Made Easy (2025), co-authored with Barnabas Abayomi Olu.
6. Introduction to Cost Accounting (2025), co-authored with Farayola Ayo Ade.
7. Introduction to Banking and Finance (2025), co-authored with Usman Ibrahim Zwall.

Several of these publications were sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), demonstrating their academic relevance and contribution to knowledge development.

In light of these verifiable accomplishments, attempts to reduce Dr. Yakubu Adamu's academic achievements to sensational and unsubstantiated allegations do a disservice to the principles of objective journalism. Public discourse should be guided by facts, evidence, and proper verification rather than conjecture and misinformation.

The public is therefore encouraged to critically evaluate the facts and independently verify the extensive academic, professional, and research records of Dr. Yakubu Adamu before drawing conclusions based on misleading reports.
