Since February 1976, there was only one person from the Northern Zone that became the elected executive governor of Bauchi State. That was Late Alhaji Abubakar Tatari Ali. He was duly elected in 1979 as the first civilian Governor of the State and the administration was cut short in 1983 following a military coup that brought the Federal Military Government of Major General Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
The needed term in Bauchi State politics is “synergy”, which suggests or can be referred to as a happy outcome of cooperation, with different groups pitching in to make progress in ways that they could not achieve separately. But in the 1983 political days, we are increasingly seeing a dark side of “synergy” in our State as well, in political pitching to sidelines certain camps that were underrated or undermine In the politico-governance of Bauchi State.
The political history of Bauchi could not be more than the stories of bereavement, the dichotomy of Bauchi/Katagum has brought about a certain backwards to our development, it's increases rivalry and utmost competition to race ahead of each other. Bauchi State is endowed with rich and human resources, vast landmass and of course literacy skills that make the people of the State to be known for their craftsmanship. Bauchi State Is far much good for everything development. The Bauchi/Katagum dichotomy has brought antagonism and clash, a conflict of interest as well as a bitter contest between brothers. Bauchi State people have become a political duel and encounter that culminated in a series of events that resulted in a brotherly fight and jealousy. A race to supremacy and State control that make people of Bauchi South bitter competitors of the Bauchi North strife a struggle and silent tug-war and Political bout between the two comes politicians. Bitter opposition always draws the State backwards and ridiculous and oblivious of development. Who will unite the people? Who will bring a social justice that will kill the pride of the juggernaut that makes us looks stupid in all our endeavours?
Dr Musa Babayo (born 21 March 1957) is a Nigerian banker, businessman, politician, and elder statesman. Dr Babayo was born and raised in Azare, Katagum local government, Bauchi state. He attended the Nasarawa West Primary School, Azare, 1965–1972 then to Katagum Government Secondary school, Azare from 1972 to 1976. He further attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he earned a Bachelor of Science in administration, banking and finance. He went to Manchester Business School, the UK for Senior Bankers course, June 1993, and University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology (UWIST), the UK for master's degree in management and technology, 1984. In 2001, he got a PhD at the University of Abuja, FCT.
In between his political career, Babayo has held different public and private offices. As a senior civil servant, he was the Chairman of the Education Trust Fund and the Chairman Board of Trustees TETFund, an appointment that was structured to last for a term of four years although the board was dissolved 2 years before the termination of his tenure on 16 July 2015.
He is the author of the Book titled "The Economic Diplomacy and Nigeria's Foreign Policy" that was first published in 2015.
Babayo was conferred with the title of Talban Katagum by the emir of Katagum Emirate, late Kabir Umar on 13 January 1996. Also awarded as the recipient of the Most Outstanding Public Officer Award by the Independent Service delivery monitoring group ISDMG, 2014.
There is a need in an improvement in the condition, strength, or fortunes of the Bauchi State people, which has been in different occasions being deprived of many things, it is time to consider a Synergy in politics where we can have a better Bauchi State, by voting the man that can bridge the rivalry and cold war between the South and North zones. Dr Musa Babayo, a tested and trusted personality, can today be the difference and game-changer to make a greater Bauchi State, where equality will be the rhetorical tone, not the sectionalism that brings a bitter division. Dr Babayo is indeed instrumental to making good thoughts, looking at his background in prudence, Altruistic personality and good morality. The Bauchi State of 2023, can be a better harbour for netting a better life for our people. Bridging the dichotomy is a task that must be done to fix the past anomalies and Political brouhaha that plunge us into the mess we found ourselves in today.
